Stepping up for the community

The Pharmaprix Weekend to End Women's Cancers, Quebec's largest cancer fundraising event, showcases the tremendous value and power of the inspiring partnerships that the JGH Foundation enjoys with deeply committed corporate citizens such as Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC), a leading Canadian-based law firm with 500 lawyers and offices in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.

Introduced to the Weekend by JGH Foundation Board Trustee and FMC partner Norman Issley, the law firm decided in 2010 to join the entire community in raising vital funds for research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of women's cancers at the Segal Cancer Centre – becoming the official sponsor of the sleeping tents, dining tent and showers at the overnight camp. FMC also fielded a team of 10 walkers who fundraised and trained for this inspirational event. Furthermore, dozens of the firm's staff, family and friends volunteered their time to turn out on the weekend of the event. They distributed signature FMC hats, which are much appreciated by the walkers, and cheered on their colleagues, as well as the thousands of walkers from all over Montreal and Quebec.

In 2011, FMC returned as the official Sleep, Dine and Shower sponsor. Bolstered by the greater-than-ever commitment and participation of its employees and their loved ones, the firm fielded 26 walkers, almost three times as many as in 2010. It also saw a marked increase in the number of staff who, along with friends and family, devoted part of their weekend to supporting the walkers and the cause.

“At FMC, giving back to the community is a fundamental aspect of our firm's overall national strategy," said Claude Morency, Managing Partner of FMC's Montreal Branch, and a Weekend walker for the past two years. “We are very proud of the determination and dedication shown by our employees, their families and friends. Their enthusiastic response and growing support of this worthy cause is truly an inspiration for all."
