The Jewish General Hospital Foundation held its 25th Annual JGH Silver Star Mercedes-Benz Golf Classic on June 5, 2017 at Elm Ridge Country Club. Although the weather was not in our favor, most of the golfers met the challenge and played as many holes as possible. Gary Wechsler, Chair of the event, and our Honourees thank all who participated and showed their support.

The Golf Classic was created in 1993 under the leadership of Stephen Vineberg, President of the Centre Board, Steven Cummings, President of the Foundation and Frank Leboff, first Golf Chair. Their vision was not only to raise much needed funds for the hospital but as importantly, to celebrate the multi-cultural beauty of the hospital and the city. Over the past 25 years, this event continues to bring together people from Montreal's various communities who share the love of golf and the love of the Jewish General Hospital. We will be forever grateful to Stephen, Steven and especially Frank for pushing forward this incredible initiative.

Since its inauguration, the Golf Classic has raised over $19 million to improve the medical care, life expectancy and quality of life of the people of Montreal, Quebec and beyond. The key to this success has been the strong partnerships with Montreal's corporate and financial services communities. More specifically, it is the leadership of these communities, whose efforts will ensure an impressive outcome. Past co-chairs and honourees include such pre-eminent Quebec and Canadian personalities such as the Late Mr. Morton Brownstein (Browns Shoes), Mr. Charles Larente (Scotia McLeod), the Broccolini Family (Broccolini Construction), the Honourable E. Leo Kolber (Claridge), Mr. Mel Ellen (G A Grier), Mr. Mark Smith (Pandion Limited), Mr. Michael Roach (CGI), Mr. Jacques Menard (BMO), the Schwartz and Segel families of Dorel and our friends from RBC.

We are proud to announce that the 2017 Golf Classic raised over $900 000 which will once again be allocated towards the state of the art Sandra & Steven Mintz Nephrology Centre, headed up by Dr. Mark Lipman at the Jewish General Hospital. For more information about the cause, click here.

We thank the many individuals, companies and groups who supported this worthwhile and highly rewarding cause.

A very special thank you goes to the longstanding event host Silver Star Mercedes-Benz, the members of the Golf Classic organizing committee and our dynamic and ever-helpful partners at the JGH Auxiliary.
