Chorale2019

A LOVELY EVENING FOR A GREAT CAUSE!

Celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with us on December 9, 2019 for the 4th edition of Christmas Carols for Research. With special guest Gregory Charles, our very own Dr. Mark Basik will conduct the Liberation and Communion Choir for an hour of our favorite holiday songs with proceeds benefiting breast cancer research.

Dr. Mark Basik, maestro of the Christmas Carols for Research concert, is thrilled to be combining his love of music with his work as a cancer scientist in such a meaningful way. All funds raised by this event support Dr. Mark Basik's research, which focuses on finding new treatments for aggressive breast cancers.

Guests are invited to the welcoming cocktail to enjoy delectable hors d'oeuvres prepared by famous Fairmount Reine-Élizabeth. Exclusive wines will be served, thanks to our sponsors Bernard Magrez and Grands Vins du monde.

Benefit concert founded by Johanne Champoux and cochaired by Daniel Desjardins and Vincent Joli-Coeur.

ABOUT DR. BASIK

Dr. Basik is a surgical scientist at the Lady Davis Institute and an associate professor in the Departments of Surgery and Oncology at McGill University since 2003. He is the Head of the Cancer Genomics and Translational Research Laboratory at the Jewish General Hospital.

His primary research interests are: the study of mechanisms of resistance to different drugs used in breast and colon cancer, including chemotherapy and targeted therapies; the study of new diagnostic blood tests for cancer patients and the development of new animal models to predict response to different therapies. Dr. Basik and his team are working in translational cancer research, which aims at bridging basic and clinical research for the benefit of cancer patients. The strength of his laboratory is his access to clinical patient samples and use of cutting-edge technologies.

The importance of donations

Donors have an important role to play in the progress of breast cancer research. Donors support helps create resources, facilitate access to equipment and allow the training of highly specialized cancer scientists. Most importantly, supporters have the power to speed-up research, leading to faster treatment for breast cancer patients.
